THE ODYSSEY

ASSISTANT SET DECORATOR - LOS ANGELES UNIT

Direct: Christopher Nolan
Production Designer:  Ruth Dejong
Set Decorator: Gene Serdena

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS/  LOCATION:  LOS ANGELES, CA

Synopsis: After the Trojan War, Odysseus faces a dangerous voyage back to Ithaca, meeting creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens, and Calypso along the way.

I was put in charge of the Los Angeles unit, which represented the Interior Ithaca Kingdom. Because the project was filmed globally, my responsibilities extended beyond the Los Angeles unit, and I collaborated with the other teams to support the design and execution of additional sets.

I provided research for various locations and environments, developed floor plans incorporating set decoration pieces sourced internationally, and assisted with the design of fabrication drawings that could be executed by the set construction teams.

One of the primary research initiatives assigned to Set Decoration was developing the visual language for the flags featured throughout the film. I spearheaded the research for this aspect of the project, working to establish distinct visual identities and references for each kingdom. This research helped shape the flag designs and provided a cohesive visual foundation for the different kingdoms throughout the film.
